from Atropos magazine on NMN 2012.
After a year's absence and a period of re-organisation the big event of the
mothing calendar returns in 2012. National Moth Night (NMN) has evolved
into Moth Night, which will take place on 21-23 June 2012, targeting recording
effort at Brownfield sites (such as old quarries, disused railway lines,
reclaimed coal tips, gravel and clay workings, etc.. The event follows the
previous formula of NMN, which ran between 1999 and 2010, but includes a number
of significant changes in response to feedback received from participants over
the years, and the need to adapt to a changed environment following the scaling
down of the Moths Count project.
By holding the event over three nights (Thursday to Saturday) it is hoped that
the negative impacts of weather events may be reduced, (no guarantees there of
course!) whilst also allowing more flexibility with those planning activities
and events. No longer will we be focussing on a range of target species
but each year's event will have a specific theme. An important change,
which we also hope will make life easier
